Cosmetic surgery remains a prevalent trend in today's society, with one of the most popular procedures being "nose augmentation." The nose serves as the focal point of the face, and altering it can dramatically enhance facial aesthetics, instilling newfound confidence. Additionally, for some individuals, nose augmentation is a symbol of good fortune, as it can further enhance facial attractiveness.
Nose Augmentation:
This surgical procedure aims to correct nose shapes that do not complement the face, lack definition, or lack proportionality when measured against the forehead, nose tip, and chin, also known as the "golden ratio." During nose augmentation, the surgeon can visualize the entire nasal structure. By making an incision at the base of the nose and cutting vertically to reveal the nasal axis, the surgeon separates the skin from the nasal structure and adjusts the problematic structure before nose augmentation.
Which Nose Augmentation Technique is Best?
1. Open Rhinoplasty:
Surgeons can see the entire nasal structure. The surgeon opens the incision under the base of the nose and makes a vertical incision to see the nasal axis. The skin is separated from the structure of the nose, and the original structure with problems is adjusted before nose augmentation.
Suitable for Whom?
Patients looking to correct nose problems or those with pre-existing nasal structure issues, such as crooked noses, humps, or pig-like noses. Open nose augmentation can also be combined with silicone augmentation, nasal structure adjustment, and nose tip filling to prevent perforation all at once. This depends on the diagnosis of the surgeon.
2. Closed Rhinoplasty:
An incision is made along the edge of the nose to create space under the nasal dorsum for silicone insertion along with surgical incisions. The skin can be opened on one or both sides.
Suitable for Whom?
Patients with minor nasal structure problems who undergo only silicone augmentation or combined with nose tip augmentation using soft tissue behind the earlobe.
Self-care after Nose Augmentation:
Within the first 24-48 hours, apply cold compresses or use gel pads or cold water-soaked cloths for cooling. If there are bruises, apply warm water compresses. Additionally, it is recommended to sleep with the head raised on a high pillow to reduce swelling.
Gently wash your face with mild soap within the first day. Clean the wound area with clean water, using a cotton bud to clean around the wound.
For those who undergo nose augmentation with soft tissue augmentation, recovery may take approximately one week. Light activities are allowed, and heavy lifting should be avoided for about one month.
